Mariam Hammoud

BA in Architecture, Academie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (current)

Having recently participated in an Experimental Architecture workshop at ALBA, Hammoud developed an interest in elements of spatiality in everyday objects. She draws inspiration from her surrounding environment and the mundane. For her large-scale photographs, Hammoud starts her process by creating two-dimensional abstract compositions and then experiments with different folding processes in search of uncanny landscapes. The resulting images evoke mystical and imaginary realms that aim to stimulate the viewer›s memory of substance-infused experiences. The goal is for the subject to question space and ultimately reach meditation and self-actualisation. In addition to the interchangeable materiality, the surfaces appear in slow motion where both colors and forms are activated.
